Google vs publishers...the plot thickens

No sooner does the New York Times launch it's much lauded NewsTracker service (cost: $19.95 a year, plus a fair bit of data about yourself), Google launches its News Alerts (cost: your e-mail address)....as covered on News.com.
The relationship between Google and publishers becomes increasingly complex. Are they a threat..or a fantastic free marketing channel?
Will wait and see how this works...although one early adopter isn't that impressed.
Meanwhile, some useful tips on how to make the most of it from Poynter.org.
