if anything Brian Appleyard's column was understated. If you'd watched the Final that year, a grueling 100 minute encounter decided in the last 30 seconds, and if you further knew the slings and arrows England manfully endured from the Oz press throughout the tournament (Dad's Army and the like, perhaps you'd understand.

And lets face it, rugby players are blokes, and typically gentlemen as well, possessed of both a Christian and a surname, and quite capable of conjugating a wide variety of verbs. Soccer players, well, are not.
